In emergency refugee camps like Zaatari, the prime focus is on providing the inhabitants with the 'basics'. The majority of Syrian refugees who now live permanently in the non-permanent Zaatari Refugee camp, fled their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs and the few items they could carry in a backpack.
The basics of a refugee camp are considered to be shelter, food, clothing, household items, water, hygiene facilities and health services (World Vision, 2016). World Vision also states,
"Children need a safe environment and a chance to play and go to
school."
What then constitutes the fundamentals of eduction in a refugee camp. What do children who are in a permanent state of liminality require?

SAFEY - a safe and welcoming environment, free from physical harm and prejudice.
SUPPORT - support from teachers, peers and the community.
PURPOSE - every student needs a reason to continue their education. A goal.
HOPE - to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for them to pave their own way in the future.
"Education is vital to improving lives across a range of areas: whether it be in health, sanitation or gender equality, access to education leads to better outcomes and brighter futures" (CARE Organisation).
